“Teaching schools are outstanding schools that work with others to provide high-quality training and development to new and experienced school staff. They are part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system”

The Pathfinder Teaching School Alliance was designated in April 2014, since then the Alliance has grown to be one of the biggest in the region and has helped support schools in York, The East Riding, North Yorkshire and Hull. Our overarching ethos as a teaching school is to improve the educational provision for pupils and staff, supporting in anyway we can.

As a teaching school we continue to measure our performance against the “big three” areas outlined by the DfE. These are:

  1. Initial Teacher Training
    • Pathfinder works with three universities to provide it schools direct programme and we offer training to for both primary and secondary phases in a range of subjects. Since our designation we have successfully trained more than 250 teachers.
  2. Continuing Professional Development
    • Pathfinder in partnership with the City of York Council offers a comprehensive professional development programme for both primary and secondary colleagues. We also run a two-day headteacher residential conference and can put together bespoke training on request. Please visit the professional development section of our website for more details.
  3. School to School Support
    • Pathfinder has supported more than 40 schools across and number of deployments including headteacher and senior leader secondments as well as SLE deployments and specialist teaching and learning and systems and structure diagnostics.

We do not have a formal membership structure and are actively seeking to widen our school partnerships and networks. If you would like to visit the teaching school or would like to know more about the work that we do then please email Linsee Thompson who will arrange an appointment
